Black Jack is possibly one of the more well-known games gambled on in casinos. Blackjack is also referred to as "twenty one" or "pontoon." The game is a mix of luck and skills coupled with decision-making. The game has evolved over a set amount of time. Players have specialized in certain skills like "card counting," with which they shift the edge in the game in the players favor. The game has been around since the 18th century. References can be found in historical documents to a card game known as "vingt-et-un," which in French means 21, and is thought of as the ancestor to black jack.

The card game was initially not so popular in the US. This caused the casinos attempting a variety of features like offering a bonus like a ten to one payout, if the blackjack player had an ace of spades and a black jack. The jack could be either clubs or spades. Once the game became well-known, the bonus payout before long disappeared from the rules.

Any hand which reaches a sum of twenty-one is considered a winner. The total should not go beyond twenty one, if it does the hand is considered to be "bust." The target of each player is to beat the croupier. If both the player and the house have the identical score, it is called "push," with neither the player nor the croupier coming away with a win on the hand.
